3-in-12-months cleanings help TRDP diabetics practice good oral hygiene
With its emphasis on diagnostic and preventive care, the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) can help enrollees avoid the risk of gum disease and other health issues associated with diabetes. In addition to two annual exams and an x-ray, Enhanced TRDP enrollees with diagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes can get three annual cleanings, paid at 100% with no deductible, no applicable maximum and no out-of-pocket costs when provided by a TRDP network dentist.
The same rolling 12-month time limitation as described in our previous article applies to three cleanings for diabetic enrollees, starting with the first covered cleaning in the series. For example, if a TRDP enrollee with diabetes has his/her first covered cleaning on March 2, 2016, a second covered cleaning in July 2016 and a third covered cleaning in November 2016, the TRDP will not pay for another cleaning until March 2, 2017—12 months to the day from the first paid cleaning—or after. This time limitation is designed to encourage you and your dentist maintain a regular schedule for your routine cleanings and other preventive services in addition to important oral hygiene practices such as brushing and flossing.
